KEBBI STATE: NCS Lost Personnel In Attack At Koko Besse Patrol Base

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command, has reported a tragic incident at the Koko Besse patrol base on Thursday, July 25, 2024. At approximately 2100 hours, a group of armed men attacked the patrol base, causing significant destruction and targeting officers in response to recent anti-smuggling activities in the area.

During the assault, the armed men caused mayhem at the patrol base and then pursued two officers. Assistant Superintendent Customs I Dabo Umar was shot and killed, while Superintendent of Customs Babagana Abba Kabiru was abducted. The body of the deceased officer was retrieved and transported to Kaduna for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

In response to the attack, a manhunt has been launched to capture the perpetrators and secure the release of the abducted officer. The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the safe return of the kidnapped officer.

Superintendent of Customs and Public Relations Officer Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, speaking on behalf of the Customs Area Controller, emphasized that this incident would not deter the NCS Kebbi Area Command from performing their duties. He stated, “We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the affected officers and the deceased.”

Salisu assured the public that the NCS Kebbi Area Command, in collaboration with other customs units and government agencies, remains committed to carrying out its statutory functions in the best interest of Nigerians despite the challenges posed by such attacks.

The Nigeria Customs Service will continue to work diligently to uphold security and combat smuggling activities in the region.
