NIGERIAN ARMY: Commander 9 Brigade Hosts 81 Division NAOWA Chairperson, Empowers Widows


The Chairperson NAOWA 81 Division Chapter, Mrs. Zainab Aliyu Farouk Mijinyawa along with her entourage, paid a familiarization visit to Headquarters 9 Brigade Nigerian Army and NAOWA 9 Brigade Zone on 15 October 2024. She was warmly received by the Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olawale Mathew Oyekola, as well as members of NAOWA and NASWA 9 Brigade Zone. Following the reception, Mrs. Mijinyawa who had earlier in the morning visited 174 Battalion, Odogunyan Barracks, Ikorodu, was given a guided tour of the NAOWA Schools and the 9 Brigade Medical Center before being formally received at the Brigade’s Conference Room.

In her remarks, the Chairperson stated that her visit was to familiarize herself with the various formations and key establishments within the 81 Division’s area of responsibility and to engage in heartfelt discussions with members of NAOWA and NASWA. She expressed gratitude to the Commander 9 Brigade for his warm reception. She equally appreciated the Commander for his sustained efforts at impacting on the lives of the entire Cantonment community, especially women and children.

During her visit to the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, NAOWA 81 Division Chapter Chairperson, Mrs. Zainab Aliyu Farouk Mijinyawa, participated in a Widows’ Empowerment Programme organized by NAOWA 9 Brigade Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Olubukola Olayinka Oyekola, in collaboration with honorary members of the 9 Brigade Officers’ Mess. The event featured the distribution of palliatives to widows and presentation of cheques for tuition fees of their children attending Command Day Secondary School within the Cantonment, demonstrating NAOWA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable families. The initiative was aimed to support widows in the Cantonment and alleviate their hardships amid the current economic challenges. Items distributed to the beneficiaries included cartons of Indomie noodles and Golden Penny noodles, bags of rice, vegetable oils, cooking ingredients and bread. The tuition covering 3 terms for 17 selected children of the widows was covered by the Zonal Coordinator, Mrs Olubukola Oyekola.

Following the Widows’ Empowerment Programme, the Chairperson was hosted alongside her entourage at the 9 Brigade Officers’ Mess to a lunch by the Zonal Coordinator NAOWA 9 Brigade Zone. The lunch was equally attended by the officers of the Brigade and the Honourary Members of the Brigade Officers’ Mess in honour of the visiting Chairperson 81 Division NAOWA Chapter.

The visit was climaxed with a presentation of souvenirs by the Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army and the Zonal Coordinator to the Chairperson and her entourage, including group photographs.
