In a bid to improve the welfare and operational readiness of its personnel, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, under the command of Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, on Thursday, 29th May 2025, commissioned several infrastructural projects at its base in Apapa, Lagos.
The commissioned projects include a newly constructed 36-lavatory facility, a solar power system aimed at enhancing energy sustainability within the base, and a groundbreaking ceremony for a 50-man ratings’ transit accommodation.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Special Guest of Honour and Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Michael Gregory Oamen, commended the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, for his continued focus on personnel welfare and infrastructural development within the Navy.
Rear Admiral Oamen noted that the projects were aligned with the Strategic Directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, which prioritizes the well-being of personnel across all naval formations.
“The commissioning of these facilities today is a testament to the commitment of the Chief of the Naval Staff to the welfare of Nigerian Navy personnel. The 36-lavatory facility will significantly improve sanitation and hygiene for our personnel. The solarization project is part of our drive towards sustainable energy, ensuring reliable power supply while promoting eco-friendly practices. Furthermore, the transit accommodation will provide comfort for ratings in transit and enhance their operational readiness,” the FOC stated.
The groundbreaking of the 50-man transit accommodation marked the beginning of the construction of a modern residential facility that will cater to the accommodation needs of ratings on transit, helping to boost morale and support the Navy’s core operational goals.
The projects reflect the Nigerian Navy’s broader commitment to creating a professional, motivated, and well-supported force capable of effectively fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
Lieutenant Hussaini Ibrahim, Base Information Officer for NNS Beecroft, reaffirmed the base’s dedication to contributing to the overall vision of a responsive and people-focused Nigerian Navy.
